the storm, the sona and a lot of sharing

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

it was an overly long weekend for me, courtesy of typhoon glenda. classes were suspended yesterday and the other day, and i still don’t have classes today, since it is wednesday. wednesdays are free days for majority of UP Diliman students. And i am one of those. the 5-day vacation was boring at some point. A while ago, i was freakin bored alone at home that i invited my cousin living near our house to soak ourselves in the rain. she agreed and we had a pretty crazy time. we are both grown-ups, you know, and passers-by got freaked out to see us na naliligo sa ulan. funny.

anyway, i would just like to comment about the SONA last monday. the heavens seemed to favor PGMA, for the rain drenched the protesters and their intensity. but i have to give it to the others who still came and protested sa commonwealth. i saw some coming from the university ave. well, the SONA was more of a Philippine geography refreshers’ course than a SONA for me. it was helluvah dragging speech i almost fell asleep, especially in that part when gloria began talking bout the superregions thing. in addition, the rounds of applause made the speech longer. at the end of almost every sentence PGMA said, her allies in the hall clapped. i dunno if they even understand what the hell the president was saying.

i also found some of her comments totally ironic, especially the part when she condemned political killings, and at some point, greeted general palparan, who is said to be responsible for all those (according to the news). anyway, i do not wish to talk and i am not that interested about politics (o, i sound like gloria) and those killings. all i can say is that i enjoyed seeing the general sheepishly smile and seem to get very shy because of the attention drawn to him. haha. i never expected him to be that shy, especially when the news say he’s kinda tough. nakakatuwa lang. ironic, indeed.

GMA also said she’s not going to talk about politics, but heck, she called almost all her allies in the hall. He greeted congressmen, military men, local government officials and even manny pacquiao and the mt everest dudes. i dunno. i see it as an indirect way of talking bout politics. tonigz calls it a ‘roll call of cronies’. i dunno if i would consider them all as cronies. but i still like the way he called it. sharing lang.

anyway, enough of the SONA. i just felt interested in it since im a journ major. but id rather talk about the musical ‘the sound of music’ that i watched yesterday, on one of those bored moments i had than the oh-so-long speech the president gave. contrary to the speech, the musical was not nakakaantok. the shots were breath-taking, especially those on top of the mountains, and the song numbers were fantastic. the eldest von trapp child also looked like kristin kreuk, and i really felt captivated whenever the cam focuses on her. alam ko antigo na yung film and i am so darn late to watch it, but it was a fun time watching it anyway.

to wrap this blog entry up, ilang mga sharing:

- i so like hale and craig david. i practically listened to their music during the long vacation i had. i am addicted to hale’s ‘blue sky’, maybe because i want a glimpse of a blue sky after all the rain and stuff.

- i’ve been busy with some org MPRT stuff, but im having fun. hope the org week turns out fine amidst the postponement yet again.

- i just can’t have enough of the new close-up commercial. the one that seems like a cellphone ad. very creative.

- ive been eating a lot of sweets lately. ill not be surprised if i gained a lot of weight just within the 5-day vacation span. i promise to shape up next week. swear.

- mother and the rest of the gang said i look like a korean now. i dunno if i will be happy about that. but con says im ‘blooming’. nakakaflatter lang. haha. tnx con.

o sya. nagkakalokohan na tayo. til next time. adios.

manic midweek

Wednesday, July 19th, 2006

i had a really hectic sched yesterday. actually, hindi sya dapat naging ganoon kahectic, if not for my refusal to wake up at 8 in the morning to start my day, begin dressing up and head to the university in the morning. factor din ang pagnanasa kong mapanood si kris aquino sa game knb. ewan kung bakit.

anyway, my day began at 10 in the morning. i was hoping i cud make it to UP from our house in bulacan if ill eat my breakfast, dress up and do my other supposedly early morning routine at that time. i was chasing time to be able to make it in our org photo shoot which starts at 12. but 12 noon came, i was still at home, watching game knb with my mom. bottomline, my efforts were all in vain.

i went to UP anyway, just to watch a film we were required (actually, not that required. i just wanted to help the hospitalized filipino prof. it was a fund-raising thing of sorts.) to watch for panpil17. i arrived at the campus 10 minutes before 2 (the film’s screening time), so i had to rush to the film center to get tickets and some decent seats. i met dodz kral (and a bunch of his SOD-mates) at the theater. after getting tickets,  we got some seats (luckily) and waited for the movie. he updated me about his plans to shift to journ next year. i wished him luck, assured him he can get some help from me along the way, but told him that i, too, was still competitive.

anyway, i was praying the film we were about to watch had color and was not that old, but my prayers were not answered. it was a really old black and white film– one of ishmael bernal’s firsts. it was entitled "pagdating sa dulo". it was a pretty bizarre film, talking about film-making, and the love affair of a stripper who looks very much like keanna reeves and a taxi driver. the pacing was too slow. it just revolved around shootings. quarrels among the characters and surprisingly, a lot of bed scenes. didnt know they were that ’showy’ before.

anyway, i failed to finish the film because i was scheduled to have a buddy date with my org buddy (duh. that was a no-brainer) at 4 o’clock. it was some sort of blind buddy date, since i havent met her before. all i knew was her name: sophia. when i went to choco kiss, i practically searched for her. when i found her, we had the usual introductions, afterwhich we had a really cool conversation. she was fun to be with and i have to admit she’s cute. im lucky to be her buddy, coz i can sense the potential in her. by the way buddy, in case you’re reading this, thanks for the treat. just remember im here to help anytime.

after the fantastic buddy date, i went to the cmc building and spent some time with my orgmates at the skywalk. we kept ourselves busy thinking of our mutant names and superpowers for the org exhibit. i had a really fun time with xter, eli and tips. on our way home, adie shared some problems. it felt awkward listening to a problem i knew little about, so i just was silent most of the time.

i, eli and xter then had dinner at lutong bahay. i was shocked to realize that i eat relatively less amounts of food than they do. maybe my stomach got used to the cost-cutting thing. i dont know.

after dinner, i met my floormates from kalai (tim,jay-ar,ted,theok,tonigz,brocoy,even madam erli, lennen, and kuya juads had some aparisyon) along the way. they looked like some cult having their pot session outside kalai (since most were in black), but it turned out they were just eating isaw. we played jokes on some residents while chilling there. afterwards, we accompanied joy to ilang and met some stand-UP people there. they were nice people, i must say. on our way home, we did some silly graduation rites on the ilang gardens.

after that, i went to molave dorm to have my photo shoot c/o dodz. it was a fun time, though his cam had some problems and champ was walking all over the place. i also saw harold there. eli was with me during the photo shoot.

anyway, this blog entry is getting way too long i have to wrap it up. bottomline is i had a quite busy wednesday. thanks nga pala to buddy (again) for the treat, to my roommate, kuya allan, for the gonuts donuts. man. i was so full at the end of the day. anyway, un lang. til next time.

PS. Thanks to jonas for letting me use his PC. un lamang.

‘marooned’

Sunday, July 16th, 2006

ive just seen the up vs admu uaap game. and darn it. we lost. by 9 freakin points. 98 to 89. it was the first time i saw a basketball game from beginning to end. and man, the team i was cheering for, my alma mater’s team, was beaten up by those blue eagles. special mention to that doug kramer guy. he was just so good i hate him. gayunpaman, his surname reminds me of the film ‘kramer vs kramer’. a great film. i know. that was a totally irrelevant sharing. sharing nga e.

anyway, midway through the game, i saw a man waving this "you have just been marooned" banner. i just like the tagline. witty indeed. but at the end of the game, we were the ones who were marooned. for those who do not know the meaning of the word ‘marooned’, it means ‘left behind’. but if used as a noun, it’s the font color i’m using now. sharing lang ulit.

i have to give it to the cacha, katsa, catsa or whatever his surname is guy from our team. he toiled much in the game. he did much offensive rebounds. marvin cruz wasnt that impressive. or should i say i wasnt impressed by his performance. i also like the maroon’s coach. coach lipa. i like it when he goes crazy off the court. his face is comically expressive. especially when the team was little by little being marooned by ateneo. funny face talaga.

anyway, why am i talking about basketball? this is so not me. ok. back to my original self. since pinag-uusapan na rin naman ang aking unibersidad, may i just share na im starting to freak out because of the two up students abducted. and they were abducted in bulacan. geez. my home town. i dont want to be abducted. i dont want my hands tied, left with nothing to eat but simple food. i just hate the thought. pero sa bagay, bakit naman nila ako iaabduct? ano bang malay ko sa mga isyu nila? hehe.

ayun. since minamadali na ako ng kapatid ko, fast sharings na lamang ito. last friday, typhoon florita left the country. kinda sad classes werent suspended that time. kasi naman, we had this freakin practice for the waltz social dance exams, and i had a partner taller than me. i felt uncomfortable. but im workin it out. also, we also had that mind-draining envsci1 exam. it was difficult. or maybe not. it was just long. i dunno. i just hope i fared well. during the weekends naman, i just practically did nothing but read ‘angels and demons’. yeah. i know im ancient. everybody has read the book. but the hell i care. i like it. twists. turns. drama. conspiracy. love it talaga.

update with my mushy dilemma: geez. we are just practically spending more time together. and she just inspires me. i just dunno how to fight the feeling with everything that’s happening. mind over matter dreo. mind over matter.

anyway, yun na. bye.

Just Chillin’

Thursday, July 13th, 2006

Another storm just hit freakin’ Philippines and classes were thankfully suspended. Suspension of classes meant a lot of time for me to just chill around and forget acads even just for a while. I slept for about 10 hours, one of those few instances that I do so now that I’m in college.

At lunch time, I and my dorm mates (Jushua, Bogs, Jonas and Monchi) braved the storm and went to Katipunan. We ate at KFC (a bucket meal) just for the Superman tumblers. I got a pretty good tumbler, although almost everyone in the dorm had a tumbler of the same design. Luckily, I didn’t get Monchi’s tumbler. It was so darn not-so-looking-right. I dunno. Maybe it’s because it’s too simple. Anyway, all in all, I enjoyed the KFC experience. Why wouldn’t I, after eating two fried chickens, fries, double rice and a ‘tumblerful’ of iced tea? Nakakabusog ng sobra. Fun din yung non-sense talk while chillin sa marble na table sa KFC-Katips. Although masyado nga lang maginaw sa place namin. Partida, nakajacket pa kami nun.

We also dropped by Cello’s doughnuts and dips before going home. We bought donuts, of course. I was surprised to see a mini-donut on top of my Oreo sprinkled chocolate dough donut (long name, I know). It was then that I realized that the mini-donut was a free item. Sort of anniversary give away. Tough luck.

When we were on the jeepney back home, Jushua was uberly porky, eating his donuts like he had never eaten one before. He also had his tumbler’s cap almost fall from the jeepney. How I wish nalaglag talaga ng tuluyan. Wattascene sana. Haha.

Moving on, after some time at the dorm, I went to Jeli, Petot and Olga’s boarding house in KNL. I was there to borrow some notes, but it turned out to be a kitchen task for me. I cooked fries for them (I volunteered to do so). Masaya naman. And I have to say I cook great fries. Jeli, you have to prove this. Haha. Balita ko you drop by my blog once in a while. Paramdam ka naman diyan.

And finally, I surfed the net. I saw Kevin’s (my best friend since elem years) valedictory speech. And man, he’s awesome. Valedictorian? Astig. Not to mention he’s so slang. I also watched (for the nth time) the hippies’ winning moment in the amazing race. I am just addicted to it. I still felt the adrenaline rush even I’ve seen it many times.

So ayun. Wala lang. Nagpagpag lang ng mga ginawa habang bumabagyo. Thanks pala kay Patty for dropping by last time. Yge.

PS. I’m falling even more. Damn. Wake up time dreo. U’ve got to stop this.

Crazy bout Rivermaya

For the first time after my many years as Rivermaya fan, I finally saw them perform live right before my eyes just last night. Geez. Was I happy at that time? I braved those freakin’ balara boys to go as close to the front as I could to the stage just to catch a better glimpse of them. Watching Rico Blanco render songs and do his thing on stage was a sure treat for me. Grabe talaga. I could still hear him singing "Umaaraw, Umuulan" and "Liwanag sa Dilim". They make good music indeed. Real good music. Thank God for that band. Thank God for Rivermaya. I am such a fan. I so like them.

By the way, thanks to that freshie guy and to kuya juads for letting me borrow the form 5. you rocks.

Out of my Element

Wednesday, July 5th, 2006

I’m feeling a bit (ok, not just a bit) odd the past few days. Up to now, I just don’t feel right. Bad news is, I really don’t know the reason for it. Maybe it’s just because of the irregular hours of sleeping and eating I have been experiencing since I entered Yakal. I would sleep at 3 in the morning, wake up at 9, have breakfast at 9:30, have lunch at 2 and have dinner at 6. Sometimes, I skip 2 meals a day and fill my stomach with either just half long or hot monay. I know this isn’t right. But I just dont have the energy to correct it.

And due to my disorientedness the past few days, I unintentionally skipped class last Monday. My first time to do so. I felt oh-so-guilty because of it. I failed to wake up at 7:30 for an 8:30 class kasi. I really felt big time stupid after the incident. Lesson learned: I should alarm my cellphone before I sleep.

Then here comes the Yakal Acquaintance Party. That was soooo tiring. We were made to squat for God knows how long. We were exposed to the rain and were wiped with that sticky thing made of gawgaw. Geez. After the event, I just looked and smelled horrible.

Pero in fairness it was a fun event after all. East Wing II won the performances, and I have to admit they did a great job. We were 3rd out of 4 competing wings, but I do not feel bitter, seriously. I had fun with my wingmates, special mention si Anj, who lightened up every rehearsal, and si Josh, na nakausap ko at about 2 in the morning tungkol sa mga bagay na hindi dapat pag-usapan tulad ng foul smell ng iba. Salamat pala sa shampoo.

Also, at the night (or morning) of the acquaintance party, my feelings for her began to get even stronger. I tried to convince myself that all of it was wrong, cuz somebody owns her. Pero lagi kong naaalala all of our conversations, the contacts, the way she told me I had some dirt on my face, the way she fixed my hair na sobrang gulo after the initiation, the way she smiled when I served her… Geez. This is wrong. I’m getting zahir-ed all over again.

Ok. I’m all out of my element (sounds like that Mariah song). I should get up and fix my life now. Haaay…

PS. Something right happened naman pala after all. I watched Superman Returns with kral, andrew and mykel. It is always fun watching a movie with your closest friends. It was particularly nice sharing thoughts to Mykel after some time, while drinking Nescafe Ice and munching on chips. It was a fun time talaga. Haha. Sa inyong tatlo, maraming salamat. : )
